Ask a Portland Plumber: Water Heater Replacement

water heater replacement in Portland

Recognize the Signs You Need a New Water Heater

We replaced a 50-gallon gas water heater model with a new unit for a customer whose old one had developed a leak at the bottom of the tank. And unfortunately, once you notice that your water heater is leaking, replacement is your only option.

Water heaters are pretty good at letting you know when their time is coming to an end. Hopefully, with these warning signs, you’ll be able to call in a replacement before anything happens and you’re left without hot water in your home.

  1. Age: The life expectancy of a water heater is normally 8-12 years. If yours falls within that, or is older, it’s time to start thinking about replacement. Even if it’s working fine now, it may not have much time left.
  2. Loud noises: If you think you hear something out of the ordinary coming from your tank, you probably do, which means it’s time for a new one.
  3. Corrosion: If your tank is suffering from corrosion, there is nothing you can do to repair it. Replacement is, again, the only option.

So has your water heater met its end? If so, you not only have to think about what specific model you want, but what size as well. It’s important to take into consideration the way your family has changed since you purchased your previous water heater. If you have more people in your family now – more children, parents living with you – then a larger tank would be best. However, if people have moved out, then you may want to invest in a smaller one.

Call 3 Mountains Plumbing today and we’ll help determine the best water heater for your needs and install it for you hassle-free.
