Save Water. Save Money. Garden at Night.
At 3 Mountains Plumbing, we’re always thinking of ways to promote mindful water conservation techniques. We are committed to environmental preservation and do our best to pass along effective strategies we’ve picked up along our 12-year journey serving the Portland community.
One of the most effective water conservation techniques we’ve discovered and recommend is nighttime gardening. This timely technique, particularly useful during the summer months, truly saves quite a bit of water. It may sound strange, but gardening at night is not only better for the environment but may also save you money.
How Does it Work?
It’s all a matter of evaporation. Water supplied to gardens during the day is quickly evaporated by the sun’s rays. For your garden to thrive, more water is needed to feed the plants, vegetables, and flowers surrounding your home. At night, the water has time to filter through the ground without being slowed or stopped by the light of the hot summer sun. More water makes for a healthier garden.
Benefits of Nighttime Gardening
Summer should mean more fun in the sun, not higher water bills. Saving money is certainly one of the major benefits of nighttime gardening, but what else?
- Conserve water
- Save money on utility bills.
- Better for the environment
- Could be fun! Bring the family out there and frolic about in the moonlight! (or, not)
